Trauma

It is important to rule out other injuries.  If you have sustained a significant injury, it is best to be evaluated in the emergency room of a local hospital in order to rule out other injuries.  If clear, or if only a facial/dental injury has occurred, you may contact our office or Dr. Lotay directly for advice and consultation/treatment.

It is best to replace the knocked out tooth as quickly as possible back into the socket.  If you are unable to do so, please transport the tooth in cold milk or a balanced salt solution (eg. Save-a-tooth) to our office for replantation of the tooth.  If the tooth is mobile, try to reposition the tooth as soon as possible and contact our office for an emergency appointment for wire stabilization.

If you have a laceration of the face or mouth, these can be treated urgently.  Please contact our office or Dr. Lotay.

If your tooth is broken, it is important to determine if the tooth is saveable or requires extraction.  Your general dentist will be able to advise you as to the best course of action and make a referral to Dr. Lotay as needed.  If you are unsure or are experiencing pain, you may contact our office for evaluation.

It is important to reposition the jaw as soon as possible in order to minimize prolonged trauma to the jaw structures.  Please contact Dr. Lotay immediately or contact our office for an urgent appointment.  Sedation may be required and, as such, please do not eat or drink before your appointment and please have a responsible adult attend the appointment with you for transportation.
