Food and drink

It is essential that your stomach be empty at the time of the appointment.

Do not eat any foods 4 hours before the appointment.

Do not drink anything for 4 hours before the appointment.

Do not drink any alcohol for 24 hours before the appointment.

Medications

Regular medications can be taken prior to your appointment unless modified by Dr. Lotay or your physician. In this case a small sip of water is permitted.

You may take 2-3 tablets (600mg) of regular strength Ibuprofen (Advil) with a sip of water 1 hour before the procedure if directed by Dr. Lotay or your physician. This will reduce discomfort after the procedure.

Transportation

Ideally you should have a responsible adult bring you to your appointment and then transport you back home. In the event that you do not have transportation, you may recover in the office for 30-45 minutes prior to driving home, provided you pass discharge protocols.

Clothing

Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing.

Contact lenses

Please do NOT wear contact lenses to your appointment.

Alcohol/Cannabis

Please do not use alcohol or cannabis or any cannabis (THC containing) products for 24 hours prior to surgery.

Smoking

You may smoke the day of surgery but you should avoid smoking for approximately 3 days after surgery to minimize the risk of developing dry socket.
