Orthognathic Surgery
Problems with jaw positioning and the facial asymmetries that result can be corrected with a procedure termed Orthognathic surgery. This is a procedure that can be done on one or both jaws to improve facial appearance and provide a stable healthy jaw relationship. This surgery is done during the process of Orthodontic therapy. In such cases, use of orthodontics or braces cannot correct the problem alone. As a result, sugery is carried out to establish the proper jaw relationship so that the teeth can be aligned correctly. During your initial visit, Dr. Lotay will examine you closely and obtain records as necessary. Collaboration with your Dentist or Orthodontist is done to establish a comprehensive treatment plan that accounts for the issues needing correction. Typically 1 year of orthodontic therapy is initiated after which the surgery is performed and then a final 6 months of orthodontic alignment is completed. The surgery is done under general anaesthesia in a hospital setting and usually involves a one night stay. MSP coverage is provided for this type of procedure.
